Wynn Hamlyn: NZFW

Day 2 of NZFW saw some amazing presentations, making it super hard to choose my featured shows! StyleSpy's first pick of the day goes to Wynn Hamlyn, who, similarly to Harman Grubisa, debuted at Fashion Week only last year. This year, Wynn nabbed a solo show spot, showcasing his A/W17 Collection, Axminster.Focused on a colour palette of golds, maroons and neutral tones, Wynn experimented with obscure textures (think living room rugs), velvets and knitwear items, as well as splashes of chartreuse & leather for good measure. Many of the pieces focus on sculptural shapes and ruffles and interesting fabrics such as enzyme-washed denim, silk, frilled shirts, white & maroon, cable knitwear and cashmere coats.

Although there is a 'throwback nature' to certain pieces in the collection, minimal accessories & contemporary styling tweaks helped to give a subversive classic look to the runway. Axminster is a collection which speaks to Wynn's technical ability, with a strong focus on relaxed tailoring and sensitivity to his market's desires. I love this collection for it's uniformity and sense of familiarity; whether that be due to the use of classic shapes, or fabrics that I have certainly seen on my Grandmother's living room floor!
