Harman Grubisa Open NZFW 2016

After a rather eventful first day in New Zealand (which included my phone being stolen - story to come soon!), the event welcome, opening party & a considered, gorgeous collection presentation by NZ heavyweights Harman Grubisa was exactly what the doctor ordered. Designers Madeleine Harman & Jessica Grubisa launched their label in 2014 and, debuting for the first time at NZFW only last year, have experienced high recognition in a very short amount of time. Kicking off the week with the 'Rococo, A/W17' runway presentation to a full house, Harman Grubisa delivered sophistication and feminine elegance, that certainly did not disappoint onlookers.

An effortless mix of office-suitable attire blended into dashing cocktail-hour wares floated down the runway, with influences as opulent & romantic as the collection name suggests. Luxurious silks, gold detailing & soft feminine silhouettes embodied the strong, sensual appeal of the 18th Century French Art Movement 'Rococo', and Harman Grubisa was able to translate these particulars seamlessly to the runway.

Harman Grubisa The choice of a  sophisticated colour palette including burgundy, rose, copper, beige, grey, ivory & black, gave the collection a modern and cohesive feel, while the tailoring focus on tiered pleating, waist-ties, tailored jackets & flares attributed influences in 80's & 90's power dressing. The designers put forward a solid mix of casual and formal wear, with impressive variety ranging from metallic layered pleats to ribbed, boy-con dresses and slouchy knits.

Rococo celebrates the empowered woman; one who dresses to celebrate their femininity while retaining heir sophistication, grace and poise. With this opening presentation, Harman Grubisa has solidified their place amongst New Zealand's A-list designers, and demonstrated their awareness of their target markets desires. A huge congratulations to Madeleine & Jessica - I cannot wait to see what is in store next
