Susana Tasi at NZFW 2023: Green Dream Meets Classic Elegance
If there's one color you’ll be rocking post-NZFW, it’s a shade of green, in most-part thanks to Susana Tasi. Riding the vivid colour wave that's seemingly splashed across all of NZFW, S.T brought the house down with hues reminiscent of lush rainforests, neon frogs, and emerald meadows.
The scene was reflective of Tasi’s showcase at Pasifika Fusion’s Fashion show last year in Papatoetoe, where she paid tribute to her mum’s journey from Falelima, Savai’i in Samoa, to Aotearoa in the swinging ‘60s. Growing up, Tasi was surrounded by the vibrant, retro styles her mum rocked, and this collection felt like stepping into a colorful and nostalgic memory lane. Packed full of wardrobe-perfect, timeless pieces that can swing from a relaxed brunch to a ritzy gala, just by switching up accessories.
The opening and closing runway pieces screamed drama with bold colors and flax details, giving a respectful nod to the designers Samoan roots. Other than these two bold looks, the collection smoothly transitioned to more versatile pieces including tailored pants, sharp blazers, waist-tie dresses, and crisp shirts—all bathed in different shades of green.
Now, the show-stealer? That’d be the pair of dancers strutting down the runway in emerald green vest & khaki jacket with a varsity spin, paired with classic white shirts and black pants. They walked the runway, paused and then burst into a surprise dance, turning the runway into a stage.
The details in S.T’s designs were nothing short of spectacular. Oversized collars, dramatic neck bows, and unique silhouettes transformed each outfit. It felt almost magical with a palette of greens and reds conjuring up feelings of a fairytale.
Susana Tasi’s NZFW collection was a vibrant blend of her personal tales, cultural tributes, and sheer fashion brilliance. If there’s one thing for sure, she’s made green the color of the season. Well played, Tasi. Well played.
