Cecilia Kang x Estelle.NZ: A Dramatic Dance of Fashion and Art
The Cecilia Kang show, in collaboration with Estelle.NZ, wasn’t just a runway – it was a theatrical masterpiece that I was privileged enough to be a part of. This fashion event didn’t just blur the lines between performance art and apparel; it practically erased them. The stage was set with a vivid red/orange backlight, casting an atmospheric glow over a parade of dresses that felt straight out of a high-octane movie.
Each piece was an intricate tale crafted by Cecilia. There were gowns shimmering with sequins, whimsical tulle, and accordion-like structures that begged a double take. And just when you thought the drama had peaked, a feathered detail would emerge, just like the ones on the gown I was lucky enough to wear. The monochromatic looks, effortlessly combining black and white, stood out. These were accessorized with Victorian brooches and layers that played beautifully with depth and texture.
In 2018, Cecilia Kang gracefully took her place in the spotlight as Aotearoa’s first transgender woman to showcase on the international platform. With every year, she pushes the envelope a bit more, and this year was no different. Her model lineup (including myself!) was a celebration of diversity, proving yet again that fashion is for everyone.
The runway presentation itself was a visual symphony of drama, artistry, dance, and statement designs. With tulle and sequins taking center stage, and Victorian influences weaving a thread of timeless elegance, the event was both a nod to the past and a bold stride into the future.
The powerful and effervescently bold makeup was curated to echo the intense theme of the show. Each model, each piece, each detail came together in a crescendo of avant-garde beauty that will be etched in the minds of the attendees for years to come.
My favourite piece of the collection?
That’s easy. The gorgeous floor length, long trained, black lace gown adorned with feathers that I was lucky enough to wear on the runway!
So, in the world of NZFW, where statements are made at every turn, Cecilia Kang, with a flourish of drama, has made sure hers will resonate loud and clear for seasons to come!
