V Major does it Major at MBFWA
Blues of all shades, re-vibed sexy 70's feels & a lot of shaggy textures: When discussing the V MAJOR runway with my friend in fashion (and everyday life) Matt (infirmofpurpose), these were the points we both kept hitting on. This runway was unexpected: Having not been privy to any of V Major's previous design efforts I had little idea what to expect, and was happily surprised at the international's offering.
Fringing and shredded details, oversized plastic earrings, silk dresses, billowing layers and the use of denim, cotton and other raw materials gave this collection a breezy, almost seaside feel, while still maintaining a high level of chic. Cuts & silhouettes danced between form fitting and loose, more flowing styles, while the overall styling (flat white joggers, minimal make up, hair out) added an atmosphere of sports-luxe to the clothing.
Patchwork-esque patterning and contrasting strips of material on garments gave the feeling of an almost DIY/homemade exploration (however, one that actually worked insanely well and didn't show up on one of the Pintrest 'nailed it' boards). A specific highlight for me was the inspired use of scarf-like sleeves as a nod to the contemporary extended french cuff trend, which is starting to become ever-so-saturated.
The devil's in the details, and V Major absolutely killed the details for their Resort 18 presentation. The best part about Fashion Week for me, is discovering new brands that surprise and excite me with their designs, and V Major has certainly done that for me this year. I can't wait to see more xxx
