VAMFF 17 Day One
Vamff's premium runway events consistently host the highest caliber of Australian design, this year's P1 schedule being no exception. Bassike, KITX, Bianca Spender, Christopher Esber, Albus Lumen, Scanlan Theodore & Strateas Carlucci presented an edgy, fresh & youthfully minded compilation of their most recent looks focusing on a vintage colour palette of navy, burgundy & crema.
Scanlan Theodore leaned into chicer territory than previous collections, with boasted bursts of floral and colour blocking varying the pieces and showing an elevated design aesthetic.
True to the name, Bassike presented clean wardrobe staples, mixing soft pastels against solid monochrome. As the industry leaders in weekend-wear, the collection was easy wearing, while not sacrificing structural style.
Albus Lumen collection celebrated the cool girl (as they always do!), with vintage suede rompers walking alongside long line jersey dresses. This was in complete juxtaposition of Strateas Carlucci, who focused on deconstructed, almost industrial looks, such as one shoulder dresses, distressed hems & metallic silver boots.
Bianca Spender showcased jewel tones against cool neutrals, with her signature suiting being created in unexpected fabrications (the red velvet suit was a definite showstopper).
KitX brought the silk, distressed leather, crushed linen and luxe velvets in their multi-textured presentation. I was getting Jean Paul Gaultier vibes from the Madonna-esque corset pictured in the gallery - absolutely one of the standout pieces of the show.
Christopher Esber presented his re-up of the classic slip dress, as well as the current must-have buttoned bodice, wrap dresses and monochrome separates. Continuing the colour-blocking theme, the garments were styled with hypercoloured bags, shoes and headscarves.
In classic Vogue style, the end of the runway had all the models walk out with glowing millinery headwear, bedazzled with stars, moons and reading 'Vogue'. A punchy & powerful first taste of Vamff this year.
