My second day in Bali was relatively open, so I decided to travel in to Kuta, the most populace and central area for tourists in Bali. I had been warned that if any sort of crime was going to happen, it would be here, so I planned to visit during the day and head home by 8pm. In a nutshell, I was not a fan of this area. I found it to be more expensive than other areas, the beaches were extremely noisy & dirty, the traffic was terrible and there was an insane amount of vendors who sell so hard it's impossible to enjoy your surroundings.Shopping here is quite intense and not for the faint of heart! Bartering is fully accepted & encouraged in Bali (unless otherwise signposted in boutiques etc.), but I found Kuta to be quite a hard place to get a 'good deal' for items easily purchased in other locations. If you are looking for familiar Western restaurants, head to Kuta for a selection of the classics (Wendy's, Pizza Hut, KFC etc). We decided to opt a different route than the beach, and with an impending storm, wanted to get indoors; it was food testing time! First up, I went for a standard choice of Nachos from Hardrock Cafe. Although the nachos were huge and delicious, the prices were the same, if not more expensive than in Australia, which, essentially, sucked. This meal was around $20 AUD. Another thing to take into account for tourists travelling to Bali is that the water is not drinkable in the country. I forgot this when ordering at Hardrock, asked for water, and was given a $5AUD bottle which I could have purchased from Circle K - lessons, lessons! The stars then aligned, and lit the path to Nebula, one of the best little bars I visited while in Bali. Tucked away off the main street, and boasting a happy hour with 2 for 1 cocktails from 12pm to 8pm (whhhhhhhuuuutttt), it is literally a foodies haven amongst the expensive, filthy surrounds. We grabbed two dragonfruit mojitos, 2 pina coladas, a bowl of sweet potato chips & dip AND a plate of parmesan crumbed mushrooms ALL FOR $20AUD, as we visited during happy hour....... that's the same price as the bowl of nachos from Hardrock...... Hey...at least I got the classic guitar picture though! Hahahaha. Stay tuned for day 3 of the Bali bible. xx
