Georgia Alice @ MBFWA
A darker & more sullen approach to the runway was evident in this year's FW presentation by relative newcomer, Auckland-based brand, Georgia Alice. The only New Zealand designer to present a standalone show, designer Georgia Currie drew inspiration from Mai-Thu Perret’s 17-year project The Crystal Frontier, championing strong women, feminism & ladies breaking away and doing it for themselves.
GA’s show was styled by Vogue Australia’s fashion editor and market director Philippa Moroney, with an intentionally dark hued palette (black, navy, grey) and model's being briefed to appear moody, and straight-faced . With an array of effortlessly cool pieces, reminiscent of coastal living, the collection featured sheer layering, relaxed silhouettes and a contemporary take on classic shirting (think exaggerated, over-length sleeves, ruching and ribbon/button detailing).
Keeping it a Kiwi savvy affair, Georgia also collaborated with fellow Auckland-based brand Meadowlark on a jewellery range to accompany her collection. Models wore eye catching, oversized hoop earrings - some of which featured up to 76 painstakingly, hand-set gemstones.
“The GA girl set's their own rules and walk's to their own beat,” Georgia explained before the show. Girl Power!
