VAMFF16 Premium Runway 2
Premium Runway event 2 was certainly one of the busier events during this season's VAMFF, and what did ELLE teach us? 1. Monochrome Still Reigns Supreme. It always has, and indefinitely will. The effortless chicness of pairing black with white, and the timeless palette that the combination implies could not be escaped this F/W, with heavyweights Alice Mccall & Bec & Bridge walking multiple monochromatic looks. Monochrome will be this seasons fail safe option, so for anybody unsure of what to fill their wardrobe with pre 16 A/W - go black & white basics! 2. Bold Patterns Come To Life. Hellooo patterns and welcome to centre stage! It's an exciting time to be a zig-zag, polka-dot or zebra-stripe, because multiple designers (inc. Manning Cartell & Macgraw) have decided that this, the A/W of 2016, is finally the patterned items time to shine! Weather creating a co-ord combination or print-clashing this season, ensure that you do have at least 2 items in your winter wardrobe that you can rely on for printed-pleasure. 3. Structured Outerwear Adds Shape. Outerwear is clearly an essential part of A/W dressing (even in Sunny Australia!) but this year's trends on the runway are a far cry from the soft, billowing loose-knits which were prevalent during A/W15. This season, designers tastes have moved towards structured, shape-giving outwear, with a focus on more industrial looking fabrics such as leather/pleather, heavy wool-blend, vinyl-coated or deeply toned tweed (a-la-Chanel). LIFEWITHBIRD wowed the crowds with amazing dusted orange, dull-shine pleather coats reminiscent of Edina & Patsy's attire in Absolutely Fabulous, and it was honestly an all round 'good time', because really - who wants to wear black the ENTIRETY of Winter? 4. Colour Injections. Yes, I know I am doing the classic fashion reporter move of covering all bases, and you are probably thinking to yourself 'well how the hell can I dress in monochrome, patterns, structure & include a pop of colour without looking like a poor man's Lady Gaga?!'. It's all about your personal styling, and one fun touch for the more faint-at-heart (that has been captured on multiple runways) is to simply inject a small pop of vibrant colour on an otherwise plain outfit. Designers have achieved this through accessorising bags, scarves, buttons, jewellery or glasses (in very bright colours like violet, lime-green & orange) in with a muted outfit's to add depth, dimension & interest; something that is cost effective & not too risky for a monochromatic dresser to try! This trend has been tapped by both Bianca Spender & Christopher Esber. 5. Oversized Items: Comfortable & Chic. Yay! There's nothing I love more than being on trend and super comfortable at the same time, a feat made totally possible by the up & coming oversized-everything style which has been captured on the runway this VAMFF! Large shirt dresses, drop-crotch track pants, unlaced sneakers, loose-fitting pullovers & hanging maxi-dresses have all featured in my favourite oversized clothing to walk this season, and I can't wait to kit myself out in some pieces. Stock up on these sorts of items, as they are flattering on every body, practical & on-trend.
