X-PLAIN: NZFW
To round off the StyleSpy report of Day 2 shows at NZFW is one of my favourite brands of the entire event: XPLAIN (trust me, these guys have absolutely no explaining to do!). Presenting a solid collection of ready-to-wear garments, predominantly consisting of dresses (my favourite), XPLAIN embodied simplistic elegance through use of soft fabrics such as silk, linen & cotton, delivering feminine elegance.Always with a touch of edge, an off colour palette of browns, oranges and blacks were splashed across pin striped suits, mesh undershirts and long slip dresses - the latter being this year's hottest item!
Tailoring was kept loose on individual garments, with layered pieces adding structure & shape to overall looks. Silhouetting choices featured splits, waist ties, and - you guessed it - asymmetrical hemlines (a trend tapped by many other brands at Fashion Week). Flat, white lace-up shoes were styled with the clothing on the runway, adding a casual/street feel to an otherwise highly sophisticated & intelligent collection that would not be out of place in the wardrobes of many successful NZ businesswomen around the country.
