Toni Maticevski @ MBFWA in Review
Buckle down & get ready to make like Anastasia Steele, because Mr. Maticevski has bought the bejewelled bondage goods to runway this year. Opening the show with a bang, and riding the success of his recent showings in Paris, Toni had the opportunity to present a fresh collection at this year's MBFWA.
Again this year, structured gowns took centre stage during the walk, featuring heavy layering, boning and unique silhouetting. Picture the typical Toni colour palette (stone, grey, cream & black), but then splice in baby blues and statement, popping yellows; boosting a resort twist to the classic Maticevski aesthetic.
For myself, the real 'awe moment' of the opening showcase came in the form of crystal-donned, Ryan Storer created accessories. We're talking bejewelled, metallic chokers, silver necklace-come-handcuffs & oversized, sparkly mouth crystals (literally, crystals shoved into, and shining out of, the mouths of models). The sheer impracticality of these items simply made me love them more (#fashionlyf), and, although the accessories may not have been overly wearable, the garments themselves & the colour palettes used will be all up in your grill come S/S season.
