Festival Fashion Guide for the Modest Girl
It's getting close to Splendour time which means that my mind has recently started swirling with ideas for festival outfits! As a chick who dresses more modestly, I really love layering clothing and styling 90's inspired looks for festivals - or featuring bold statement pieces, such as a dramatic fringed bag. I also find the modest aesthetic works particularly well in a festival setting as it allows you to stay a little warmer at night, rather than freezing to death in a crop top & high-waisted shorts! I recently put together this festival fashion guide for the modest girl, featuring my beautiful friend Anna. We had a fantastic day shooting together at the most amazing location in the warm afternoon haze. Check the photostory below for some sensory Splendour inspiration.
Outfit One: Dress - METALICUS Sunglasses - Merida Cartel Co. Boots - ROC Boots I styled this outfit together with comfort at the forefront of my mind. Throughout the day at Aussie festivals it can get ridiculously warm, meaning that loose-fitting items are your best friend to help you catch the breeze! This dress from Metalicus features a bold, fun print (perfect for the festival celebratory vibe) as well as a loose-fitting style, that still manages to retain femininity. Pairing it with the sunglasses & boots slightly toughens the look, which I adore.
Outfit Two: Dress - Op Shop purchase Leather Cruiser Jacket - Biker Club Rings - Merida Cartel Co. Shoes - Sportsgirl Flower Crown - EQUIPFlashback to the 90's!! I feel this outfit is really channeling a 'punk rocker with flowers in their hair', and I dig it for festival dressing! This maxi-dress is gorgeous, and again, features a nice loose fit & light weight material. Similarly to outfit one, I opted to toughen up the look by pairing the daintiness of the dress with this genuine leather cruiser jacket from Biker Club. I then accessorised the look with this cute ring set, a subtle little flower crown & black platform sneakers - which added a fresher feel to the look. I really rate the practicality of this jacket for festival season as well - perfect for chilly evening concerts!
Outfit Three: Grey Fringe Dress - NEXT Thailand Black Long Sleeve Wrap Top - bambam Clothing Boots - ROC Boots Belt - Vintage Fringed Bag - Aliexpress.com Beige Hat - Factorie Fringed pieces have always been popular at festivals, but I am forecasting the trend of double fringing for the up-coming festival period this season. This grey fringed dress is such a staple basic in my wardrobe - I wear it all the time! I chose to layer the black wrap top to add a layer of much needed warmth (the dress is made from extremely light fabric!) and also to keep the look modest & chic. Can't go past a good pair of boots or a hat (such as this Factorie hat) for a festival, and this fringed bag is a year round winner in my wardrobe. I love this look, because it's part country and part boho-chic and really indicative of my favourite sort of festival style.
Outfit Four: White Tunic Dress - Ginger Tree Bag - Op Shop purchase Shoes - VANS Australia Steampunk Sunglasses - Merida Cartel Co. Pleather Jacket - Aliexpress.com HOW COOL ARE THESE SUNGLASSES?! I just thought they were so much fun, especially for a festival transitioning day to night. Monochrome is my favourite palette, and I really love the edgy/cool-girl style of this look. Anna is rocking classic black & white Vans, and a gorgeous white tunic dress which features navy blue embroidered details. I kept the look casual by throwing in a pleather low-shine jacket and a small, op-shop bought shoulder bag which is the perfect size for a one day gig.
Outfit Five: Overall Dress - H&M Grey Turtle Neck Sweater - H&M Silver Bulova Watch - Merida Cartel Co. Sandals - NEXT Thailand This final majority H&M look is reflective of the 90's yet again! I love the overall style dress, and pairing it with the turtle neck sweater ads a sort of nerd-chic, which I am really loving. To make the look slightly more feminine, I chose to style in these awesome platform sandals I bought on a trip to Thailand, and thick strapped, solid-based sandal is a sturdy investment for your wardrobe. I kept the accessories elegant & timeless, with a solid silver bracelet & this classic-look silver Bulova watch - this is an outfit made up of wardrobe staples and that's why it really works!
So stoked that this final outfit shoot of the day was accompanied by an absolutely stunning sunset, in a picturesque location, that I could enjoy with one of my closest and most special friends.
